Michael D. Higgins is the hot favourite…

Betting giant Paddy Power has revealed their full list of odds ahead of October’s presidential election. They’ve given probabilities for all the likely candidates, as well as some thoroughly unlike ones.

The incumbent Michael D. comes out on top and is red hot favourite at a price of 1/5. Punters could make a fair bit of money of businessman Gavin Duffy who’s 8/1. Potential Sinn Féin candidate John Finucane comes in at 10/1, and mental health activist Joan Freeman is 12/1.

Darren Sharkey is given far less of a chance than the other likely candidates, at odds of 66/1.

After that, there are a few more left-field options for people who feel like throwing some money at Paddy in the hopes of a major payday from a presidential upset. Mattress Mick, for example, is 500/1 — though he has denied rumours that he’s thinking about a run.

It’s the same 500/1 shout for Roy Keane, Brian O’Driscoll, Marty Morrissey, Blindboy, Bono, Brian Kerr and Twink.

As for Arelen Foster to be President of Ireland by 2038… 250/1. Not quite as long as one would expect.

You can find the full list of odds on the Paddy Power website here.
