St Patrick's Day cancelled

A fantastic achievement.

It has been announced that comedians Deirdre O’Kane and Jason Byrne will officially act as Grand Marshals of this year’s Saint Patrick’s Day parade in Dublin.

The news was announced by the official St. Patrick’s Festival account on Twitter on Thursday afternoon.

O’Kane, who hails from Drogheda is an established stand-up comedian and actor, as is Dublin man Jason Byrne.

Previous marshals for the festival include Katie Taylor, Ronnie Drew, Mícheál O’Muircheartaigh and Packie Bonner.

Last year it was Liam Cunningham who was given the honour, and he recently spoke about how much it meant to him in an episode of Ireland Unfiltered with Dion Fanning.

Cunningham even went as far as to say that it was a greater achievement than winning an Oscar, as you can only do it once, and “you can win an Oscar every year”.
