Paris police ordering people to avoid Notre Dame after gunshots heard

Popular tourist area is a no-go zone

Police in Paris are responding to an incident near Notre Dame following reports of gunshots.

People have been told to avoid the area near the cathedral, one of the most popular with tourists in the city.

It is being reported that a man was shot after trying to attack a policeman with a hammer

France remains in a state of emergency following attacks by jihadists that left 130 people dead in 2015.
