Pat Hickey set to request to leave maximum security prison

Carl Kinsella

President of the OCI Pat Hickey is currently being held in Rio’s Bangu maximum security prison over allegations relating to the illegal sale of Olympics tickets.

Hickey’s lawyers plan to request that Hickey be placed under house arrested rather than be kept in his current conditions. Hickey had already been denied bail on the grounds that he is a flight risk.

Both Hickey and Kevin Mallon of ticket-seller THG will remain in custody at least until their trials come before court, which could take several months at least.

Hickey has reapplied for bail, an application which is yet to be seen by a judge. If that application is denied, Hickey’s lawyers will seek home arrest for the 71-year-old.

Hickey spent the first 24 hours of his arrest in hospital, reportedly due to a heart condition. His lawyers are also arguing that he suffers from hypertension.
