WATCH: Paul McCartney remembers John Lennon at march against gun violence in New York

Rory Cashin

“One of my best friends was killed in gun violence right around here, so it’s important to me.”

Saturday was a big day in the United States, as hundreds of thousands of people took the streets in support of the March For Our Lives rallies.

The primary one took place in Washington DC, with sister rallies taking place across the country, and even further afield, with more taking place in London and Edinburgh.

One of the sister rallies took place in New York City, and CNN happened to catch up with Paul McCartney, who was marching alongside many others to show his solidarity with wanting an end to gun violence in the country.

When asked by the reporter why he was there, McCartney simply took a step back to show off his “We Can End Gun Violence” t-shirt.

The reported responded by asking if he thought there could be any real changes made, and instead of attempting to get caught up in the political technicalities, McCartney brought it back down to reality by remembering his friend John Lennon:

“You know, I’m like everyone. I don’t know. But this is what we can do, so I’m here to do it. One of my best friends was killed in gun violence right around here, so it’s important to me.”

John Lennon was killed in December 1980 when Mark David Chapman shot him four times in the archway of upscale apartment complex The Dakota in Manhattan.
