In the wake of last night’s horrifying terror attack in the southern French city of Nice, in which a lorry deliberately ploughed through Bastille Day crowds and killed at least 84 people, cartoonists have taken to social media to send their messages of solidarity with the victims.
Locals and tourists were celebrating France’s national day on the waterfront of the Rivera city when the senseless and cowardly rampage began. Many of the 84 confirmed dead were children and a further 18 are in critical condition in hospital, according to the latest BBC updates.
The French media reported that the driver has been identified as Mohamed Lahouaiej Bouhlel, a 31-year-old man who lived locally. He was shot dead by police.
Throughout last night and today the hashtag #PrayForNice has been trending on Twitter as people from all over the world express their sorrow and support.
Here are some of the most powerful tributes from cartoons that are being shared and recirculated on social media.
