Performance artist Pyotr Pavlensky clearly takes his work, very, very seriously. Yesterday, as tourists milled around Moscow’s famous Red Square, Pavlensky stripped off and nailed his balls to the freezing cobblestones. On a website called Grani.ru website, Pavlensky explained he did it to highlight Russia’s ‘police state’. Sunday was Russia's 'Police Day' holiday. Pavlensky has some previous, sewing his lips shut in protest at the imprisonment of the band Pussy Riot and he wrapped his naked body in barbed wire back in May outside a Saint Petersburg government building.
Yesterday the police eventually covered him with a blanket before taking him to hospital, where he was also arrested.
