After a notice in Jacob’s Bar in Saggart had caused quite a stir, the pub were quick to clarify that it was all a joke and that there was no harm intended.
Next week sees the return of the Champions League (Get in!) and that means that pubs up and down the country will be full of football fans on Tuesday and Wednesday night to watch the footy and avail of any excuse to get out of the house for a cheeky midweek pint.
While advertising that they would be showing the match live on the premises next week, Jacob’s Bar issued a jokey notice in their bar and on their Facebook page suggesting that the lounge area would be reserved for male patrons only and that any ladies present would be asked to converge in the middle bar for the duration of the match.

The notice caused a bit of a stir, not least on Jacob’s Facebook page where there were pointed accusations of sexism on the bar’s behalf in the comments section underneath the notice, leading to a clarification on the pub’s Facebook page shortly after the notice was posted yesterday evening.

If nothing else, the whole episode should ensure a hefty presence in the pub for Man City v Barcelona next week; all publicity is good publicity after all.
