Newspapers in the U.S. are now using emoticons to tell their readers when to be happy, when to be sad and when to SMH (presumably).
This example comes from USA Today, who use a crying emoji on a news story about a bar altercation involving an airman.
The story is an emotive one made trivial by that teary yellow circle.
Soon enough, there won’t be any need for words at all. We’ll simply all wear t-shirts with hundreds on emojis that we can point to as the situation dictates.
The world is in ruins.
Alarming development at USA Today (via @suburbanitis.) Emoji in headline indicates mood of accompanying story. pic.twitter.com/9Oy6WRh0nM
