You won’t find this post-activity recovery method advocated by the experts, but we’d imagine it’s pretty popular amongst Junior B players across the land.
In this day and age, where preparation before and recovery after GAA matches has become increasingly scientific, Gaelic Footballers and hurlers at the top level will take part in warm-downs and pool sessions, they’ll get a massage and eat and drink all the right stuff to ensure that their bodies return to normal in as little time as possible after a match.
At Junior B level, however, players often prefer a more traditional method of unwinding after a game, like this full-back from Ellistown GAA club in Kildare who was taken off with ten minutes left in a Championship game recently…

As we said, it’s an approach that would no doubt be frowned upon by the experts but it’s different strokes for different folks after all and besides, if a half-drunk bottle of Coke works for players at inter-county level – as it did during the Munster Championship clash between Kerry and Tipperary last year – then who are we to argue with a lad having a drag of a fag immediately after coming off?
Junior B GAA, please never, ever change.
Hat-tip to Tom Kinsella for the heads-up with on this one
