PIC: Galway band play touching tribute to drummer killed in car crash

Alan Loughnane

This is so sad…

It’s been a horrible week on the roads in Ireland, with 12 people killed in accidents since Sunday.

One of those to lose their life was Galway drummer Tony Rice, tragically involved in a single vehicle accident in the early hours of Thursday morning.

Mr Rice was a drummer with the popular band, Big Generator, and was well known on the music scene around Ireland.

The band took to Facebook to pay tribute to their band member and give their best wishes to his family at this difficult time.

The post reads: “This is officially the saddest day in Big G history….We are devastated to have to announce that we lost our musical brother & friend Tony Rice today in a tragic car accident.

“Tony passed away in intensive care at UCHG surrounded by all of the band, family & friends. Tony was pure raw talent and truly lived for his drums, we are upset beyond words and all our thoughts are with his family at this time….

“Tony our hearts are broken “we miss ya brother” RIP.”
