Pic: It’s busy enough down at the beach in Rio these days

It might be Baltic here, but half of Rio seems to have headed to the beach to escape the heat wave in Brazil.
While we tie everything we own to the ground with concrete blocks to stop them blowing away, and while most of the US puts on an extra pair of trousers to stop their balls freezing off, down in Brazil they are enduring soaring temperatures. It hit 40 degrees Celsius in Rio over the weekend and that sent hordes of people heading to the city’s famous beach to cool off. Officially 6.3 million people live in the city and based on these amazing shots of Ipanema beach from Saturday, about half of them must have been on the sand.
