As far as celebrity sporting fans go, they don’t come much bigger than this…

Nearly every team involved in the latter stages of the All-Ireland series have been able to call on some form of celebrity support in the last few weeks, but the two most recent fans to jump on the Banner bandwagon have put everyone else in the shade.

German striker Lukas Podolski and Spanish midfielder Santi Cazorla went out of their way to show their support for Davy Fitz’s men by posing with a couple of hurleys and an ‘Up the Banner’ sign in the Arsenal dressing room recently in a picture that was uploaded onto Twitter this morning, complete with a quite brilliant #wristyhurlers hashtag.

We’re not sure what, or more pertinently, who, motivated the two lads to get behind the Banner – as the saying goes, neither Germany or Spain are hurling strongholds – but if the Clare lads needed any extra motivation to get one over the Rebels – particularly the Arsenal fans in the group – then surely this is it.

Hat-tip to Adam McAteer and Cian Heaslip for the heads up with this one
