Those fortunate to be at the Mexican Business Summit in Guadalajara today bore witness to a meeting between one of the most famous men on the planet… and legendary Brazilian footballer Pele.

President of Ireland Michael D Higgins has met a lot of famous people in his time, but in a sporting sense they don’t come much bigger than arguably the greatest footballer of all time, Pele, who ran into Michael D and Labour TD Joe Costello at the Mexican Business Summit in Guadalajara today.

As a keen Galway United supporter, Michael D knows his soccer and no doubt would have had plenty to talk to Pele about and if the pictures below are anything to go by, the two great men must have spent a fair bit of time in each other’s company.

What Pele was doing at the summit we’re not entirely sure, although it could well have been promote his association with erectile dysfunction medication Viagra, which he has been keen to point out he has no use for himself of course.
