Pic of the Day: Italy have seen our flags and raised us an entire cornfield dedicated to Mario Balotelli

We loved the many different Irish flags we saw at Euro 2012 but Italy have a bigger canvas in praise of Super Mario. A much, much bigger canvas.

We loved the many different Irish flags we saw at Euro 2012 but Italy have a bigger canvas in praise of Super Mario. A much, much bigger canvas.

It had to be Mario Balotelli didn’t it. If any player at these championships was going to have his image displayed in a large cornfield it would be the Manchester City man.

While he has been a bit quieter than usual at the Euros Super Mario has still found time to mess about in training and just yesterday he referred to himself as more man ‘than Peter Pan’ whatever that means.

Anyway, today’s picture of the day is a marvellous tribute to the unpredictable striker. It might inspire him to rattle a few past his City team-mate Joe Hart tonight. It might not. You never know with Mario but for World Cup 2014, if we’re there, we want to see some Irish fields turned into images of James McClean and Seamus Coleman.

Hat tip to @matthew_barker for tweeting the picture.
