Pic of the Day: The ‘Welcome to Cavan’ sign is a piece of local brilliance

The good folk of Cavan don’t just want to let you know when you enter the Breffni county, they also give you a crash course in the local lingo.

The good folk of Cavan don’t just want to let you know when you enter the Breffni county, they also give you a crash course in the local lingo.

We have seen some classic examples of Irish road signs recently, and this sign on the N3 is cut from the same cloth.

The easy thing to do on the Meath/Cavan border would be to have a sign ‘Welcome to Cavan’. But we’re just glad that the time and effort was put in to create this sign that shows not only the colloquial language of the county, but also a great sense of self-deprecation.

Hat-tip to Paddy Quinn for sending this our way.

Practically impossible not to read in a Cavan accent!
