Pic: Oxford Christmas Party gets out of hand when student with flamethrower shows up

Well, that escalated quickly…

Admittedly it’s been a long time since the majority of the JOE office were in college but although they could be rowdy enough, we rarely went to student parties in fear of being burned alive. Granted, one or two fellas were bound to end up in the chimney but that was about as close as it got. Times are obviously a changin’ in universities these days it seems, as the annual Christ Church party in Oxford University had to be shut down recently after one student turned up wielding a homemade flamethrower. That’s right, a flamethrower. The student, one Inago Lapwood, brought along a flamethrower he had built using a nail gun and a glow plug from a diesel engine in order to ignite a canister of butane gas and used it to shoot flames into the famous Tom Quad on the university campus. 20-year old Lapwood, who was reportedly dressed as the band Arcade Fire, is quoted as saying in the Daily Telegraph: "I used it for about ten minutes, and it's not as though I set any of my friends on fire. "I used it well away from anyone, I never took it inside and I dismantled it after I used it. "I thought about doing the pun "Sex is on Fire", but I think that one would definitely be going too far." Yeah Inago, as if bringing a flamethrower to a party doesn’t fall into the ‘definitely going too far’ category.
