Really brings home just how desperate it is…
Rarely a day goes by without news of yet another atrocity having taken place in Gaza and yesterday it emerged that at least 15 Palestinians were killed and approximately 90 injured as a result of sheltering of a UN school by Israeli forces in the early hours of Wednesday morning.
The sheltering of the school prompted Pierre Krahenbuhl, commissioner-general of the UN agency for Palestinian refugees, UNRWA, to issue a statement which read: “Last night, children were killed as they slept next to their parents on the floor of a classroom in a UN-designated shelter in Gaza. Children killed in their sleep; this is an affront to all of us, a source of universal shame. Today the world stands disgraced.”
His powerful last line adorns the front page of today’s Guardian above a picture of a tearful child who had been wounded in the attack, a picture that speaks as loud as any words ever could.
