If the magnitude of yesterday’s events in Ukraine hadn’t already registered, then this will truly bring it home. What a harrowing sight.
The world is still reeling from the tragic news yesterday that a Malaysian Airlines plane en route from Amsterdam to Kuala Lumpur was shot down over Ukraine, with 298 people losing their lives in the second major disaster to affect a Malaysian Airlines flight this year.
It has emerged that the majority of passengers (154) were Dutch and while fingers are being pointed in several directions in the aftermath of yesterday’s events, a widespread investigation is set to take place in an effort to determine what exactly caused such a tragedy in the first place.
The crash is the lead story in the newspapers worldwide this morning, but few sum it up like the front cover of this morning’s Independent, which features a picture of onlookers examining the still burning wreckage of the Boeing 777 after it had crashed to the ground.
