Pic: There’s a couple of punt still in this charity box in Amsterdam

Someone must have been doing a bit of digging around in the back of the sofa before heading over to the Netherlands recently, or else this charity box in Amsterdam just hasn’t been opened in quite some time…

While JOE reader Sarah Porter was heading back from Amsterdam she noticed an old, but familiar face while passing a charity collection box in the departures lounge of Schiphol Airport.

That face belongs to none other than James Joyce, who featured on the front of the Ten Pound note that was issued from September 1993 to 2000. So don’t be surprised if you haven’t seen one in person over the past 12 to 14-years.

Judging by the fact that the old £10 note is sitting at the top of the pile of money, we can only assume that it was dropped into the charity box fairly recently, but having said that, it might just need a long overdue cleaning out.

When asked if she thought the £10 featuring Joyce had been freshly dropped into the box, Sarah said it was ‘hard to tell, although there was the odd punt coin too’.
