PICS: A plaque has been unveiled in memory of Dermot Morgan in Dublin

Alan Loughnane

We heartily approve of this.

Dun Laoghaire Rathdown this evening unveiled a plaque in Mount Merrion in memory of the late Dermot Morgan.

Morgan was most famous for his leading role in Father Ted in the ’90s, one of the greatest comedy series ever to make it onto Irish screens, via Channel 4.

Father Ted will always hold a special place in the hearts of many Irish people and Dermot Morgan must take a lot of credit for its success.

Speaking at the unveiling, his son Rob Morgan said: “We’re delighted to have Dermot remembered in this way.

“Mount Merrion was his childhood home, Maguires shop (where plaque is located) supplied him with papers and material for many years, so to be able to stand here today, to do this, is very fitting.

“We just wish he was here too.”
