Pics: Cecil the lion was not the first illegal kill for dentist Walter Palmer

The more we know, the worse it looks.

Dr Walter Palmer has been lying low since causing global outrage by killing a 13-year-old protected lion outside Hwange Park in Zimbabwe last month but further information about the dentist continues to be unearthed. Apparently Mr Palmer is an accomplished hunter who has hunted a variety of animals in his time, mostly with a bow and arrow. The dentist has shot and killed moose, deer, buffalo, mountain lions and even a polar bear but as well as all that, this is not the first time he has been in trouble with the authorities over his pasttime. In 2003 he was convicted of fishing without a licence and in 2006 he shot a bear in Wisconsin where he was not permitted to hunt. Since the outcry following the death of the local favourite Cecil the lion, Dr Palmer released a statement saying he had no idea the lion was a protected animal or that he was a research lion. But this has done little to sooth the tempers of millions of keyboard warriors who remain appalled by the actions of the dentist. Hat-tip to the Independent and images via the Independent
