As far as crimes go, abuse of animals is certainly one of the least palatable.
Luckily, the Gardaí managed to stop a puppy-smuggling operation in the nick of time yesterday before the dogs were ferried to England.
According to a tweet by the Garda Info Twitter account, there were 15 puppies on board a van that was set to travel across the Irish Sea.
The puppies, who were huddled together in a grim looking van, were rescued and handed over to the DSPCA where hopefully a new home will be found for each of them.
The Gardaí posted very contrasting pictures of the puppies inside and outside of the van.
