PICS: Provocative scenes from an eviction in Phibsborough, Dublin on Monday

Carl Kinsella

Eviction is a stark reality for many people and families in Ireland.

While we are not currently mired in the same economic mess that impacted the whole country after 2008, there are still households that are in dire straits financially.

A Facebook group by the name of Solidarity Times published photos from an eviction in Phibsborough, Dublin on Monday. Gardaí were present in order to maintain the peace as private security guards gutted the house and evicted the people living there.

Regardless of the circumstances, the photos of the house being emptied without care for the possessions therein is quite shocking. The door has also been removed.

Solidarity Times uploaded the photos with the message: “The scene after a violent and illegal eviction of a property in Phibsborough. No documentation was produced, no court order, just an individual (who is a multi millionaire business tycoon) claiming to be the owner ordering the Gardai and private security to demolish the front door to gain entry.”

While the details of the eviction may not be so cut-and-dried as stated above, the images are an interesting and shocking insight into how evictions are conducted in Ireland.
