PICS: The specific locations where speeding drivers have been caught so far on National Slow Down Day

The law is out in force

Conor Heneghan

You can’t say you weren’t warned.

Today is National Slow Down Day and from 7am this morning (Friday) until 7am tomorrow (Saturday) Gardai and GoSafe vehicles will be out in force across the country in an effort to prevent speeding on Irish roads.

The initiative is aimed at reminding drivers of the dangers of speeding and attempting to increase compliance with speed limits in Ireland and already, there has been plenty of evidence of drivers failing to do just that.

The Garda Traffic account has been busy tweeting details of drivers who have been caught speeding so far and are also actively encouraging the public to get involved in the campaign by using the #ThumbsUp hashtag on Twitter.

So far, speeding drivers have been caught out in places such as Bundoran in Donegal and Castlebar in Mayo, while GoSafe vans are in place on roads near Enniscorthy and Ballycogley in Wexford and Mortarstown in Carlow.

For more information, check out the Garda Traffic account on Twitter throughout the day (except while driving, of course) and remember to stay safe behind the wheel folks.
