The historic wreckage of the Sunbeam on Rossbeigh beach in Kerry has been dragged up by the stormy weather

One of the most iconic spots for visitors in Kerry, the beautiful shipwreck of the Sunbeam has long been admired and revered by locals and tourists alike, but the recent bad weather has played havoc with the historic artefact.

The wreck dates back over 110 years, but in the last few days, the high tides and strong winds have managed to dislodge it and wash it up on the beach. Seán Mac an tSíthigh was on the beach, and was able to get a brilliant picture of the wreckage, which now sits much further away from the water than it once did.

According to reports on Twitter, people have, unfortunately, been looting the wreck and trying to hack away at it with all sorts of tools, hoping that the pieces might be of some value. Here’s hoping that the authorities are able to make sure that doesn’t continue.
