Garda Commissioner Nóirín O'Sullivan has vowed to put armed patrols into action across Dublin in response to the city's escalating gang crisis.

Following the murders of David Byrne and Eddie Hutch on Friday and Monday respectively, armed Gardaí are now on patrol across the city of Dublin in order to control the escalating tension between rival gangs.

Justice Minister Frances Fitzgerald said that, "the reality is these criminals are determined to behave in a ruthless fashion.

"Criminals have criminal intent, and are targeting particular individuals - and obviously there are many individuals they could target."
