Tayto Park aims to have Europe’s second biggest ride up and running by 2015.

Great news for thrill seekers in today’s Irish Independent. They carry quotes that Tayto Park owner Ray Coyle gave to sister paper the Herald concerning a major new addition to the park in 2015.

“A planning application is ready for lodgement at the end of the month with Meath County Council,” Coyle said.

“It will be 1.4kms long, and 32 metres at its highest point and it will be able to take 700 people an hour.”

That would make it the second largest rollercoaster in Europe, only beaten by one in Europa Park in Germany. Carrying 24 people at a time, it is expected to reach speeds of over 100kph and will be built in the US.

Costing €8.5m, the rollercoaster will be part of a major expansion of the Ashbourne park, with the expected date of opening for the new attraction to be April 2015.

Anyone reckon they give Ronan Keating a shout to cut the ribbon?
