Thousands of people are expected to attend.

A rally on Irish unification will take place in Dublin on Saturday (1 October), with political leaders and famous actors among those participating.

Titled ‘Together We Can’, the event is being held at the 3Arena venue from 1pm and is presented by Ireland’s Future, a group campaigning for a referendum on reunification.

Actors Colm Meaney and James Nesbitt will be speaking at the rally with the latter set to deliver its keynote address.

Ahead of the event, the Bloodlands and Cold Feet star said it would be an “historic day”.

Also taking part will be the leaders of various political parties including Leo Varadkar and Mary Lou McDonald.

Tickets for Together We Can cost from €7.10. Thousands are expected to attend for what its organisers are calling the “biggest ever conversation on Ireland’s future”.

“Ireland’s Future was established to advocate for, and promote, debate and discussion about Ireland’s future, including the possibility and viability of new constitutional arrangements on the Island,” the description for the rally reads.

“Ireland’s Future is guided by the values of the Good Friday Agreement and dedicated to the promotion and protection of human rights, equality and fostering mutual respect between all views and traditions that share this island.

“Brexit has dramatically changed the social and political dynamic on this island. The prospect of a new constitutional arrangement on the island of Ireland is growing.”

Earlier this year, Sinn Féin leader Mary Lou McDonald said she believed it was possible that a referendum on the reunification of Ireland could take place within a “five-year timeframe”.
