Travelling to see The Pope? You better book your train tickets fast

Dave Hanratty

Phoenix Park

PopeMania is almost officially in full swing as we patiently count the days until the visit of Pope Francis to Dublin.

The Pontifex Maximus is due over for events in Áras an Uachtaráin, Dublin Castle and Croke Park during his brief visit later this month, but his main order of business will be two public events in Knock Shrine in Mayo and in the Phoenix Park in Dublin.

You can check out his full itinerary here.

Among the reaction to the Pope visit so far; planned solidarity demonstrations, a Daniel O’Donnell-fronted concert spectacular and strange bespoke chairs.

Whatever way you land on the occasion, it’s big business.

So much so that Iarnród Éireann are urging anyone who is travelling to the Phoenix Park for the Papal mass on 26 August to book tickets now.

With large crowds expected, advance purchase is mandatory on Intercity services for the big day in question.

At time of writing, there is limited availability on tickets, with many options already sold out.

All relevant train service information is available here.
