A breakthrough may have been made in the mystery surrounding missing flight MH370 after two large objects of debris were detected off the south-coast of Australia.

According to Associated Press, four military search planes were dispatched earlier today in an attempt to find out whether or not two large objects found in the Indian Ocean might be debris belonging to the Malaysian Airplanes Boeing 777 that disappeared en route from Kuala Lumpur to Beijing on March 8.

Australian Prime Minister Tony Abbott informed parliament of the existence of the debris and said that planes would sent be sent to investigate today after the debris had been spotted by satellite imagery approximately 2,500 kilometres south-west of Perth.

John Young, manager of Australian Maritime Safety Authority’s emergency response division, is quoted by Associated Press as saying: “”This is a lead, it’s probably the best lead we have right now,” but also cautioned that the debris could be from cargo vessels along a shipping route in the area.

Young added that the objects in question “are relatively indistinct on the imagery … but those who are experts indicate they are credible sightings. The indication to me is of objects that are a reasonable size and probably awash with water, moving up and down over the surface”.

The Australian Government have released a map of the search area, a point at which the ocean is said to be several thousand metres deep.

While it only very early days yet, there is a possibility that this latest discovery could lead to an explanation of what exactly happened to the MH370 and provide closure for the relatives of all those affected.
