Demand is expected to be high…

Two new stamps being released to mark the historic visit of Pope Francis to Ireland for the World Meeting of Families (WMOF) in August will go on sale on Thursday this week.

With high demand expected, An Post revealed that 500,000 €1 stamps will be printed featuring an image of Pope Francis with a dove taking flight, while over 100,000 (€1.50 international) stamps, which feature a family walking together on a beach, will also be printed.

The stamps are set to be on sale in selected An Post Offices nationwide from Thursday, 26 July.

Pope Francis will visit Ireland on the 25 August where he will be transferred to Áras an Uachtaráin to visit President Higgins.

During his trip, he will be attending a meeting at Dublin Castle, visiting the Day Centre of the Capuchin Fathers and saying masses at Knock and Phoenix Park before leaving again on Sunday.

His full itinerary can be viewed here.

Archbishop of Dublin, Diarmuid Martin, recently said on RTÉ’s Marian Finucane that Pope will have to address Catholic Church abuse accusations while in Ireland.
