It’s sure to be an emotional day.
President Michael D Higgins will make a special trip to Berkeley during his US visit this week to remember the six Irish students that died tragically there in June.
President Higgins will plant a tree in the Californian town in memory of Ashley Donohoe, Olivia Burke, Eimear Walsh, Eoghan Culligan, Niccolai Schuster and Lorcan Miller.
He’ll also visit the first responders, volunteers and everyone who helped following the apartment balcony collapse.
The visit will be part of President Higgins’ eight-day trip to the west coast of the United States where he’ll also deliver a keynote address at the University of Washington.
