‘This has prevented a firearm being used to take life’ – Gardaí carry out searches in Dublin

The arrests were made on Saturday.

Gardaí arrested three men on Saturday evening following searches on vehicles in the Arcane area of Dublin.

As part of an intelligence led operation, Gardaí from the Garda National Drugs and Organised Crime Bureau and Security and Intelligence Section searched two vehicles.

Three men aged in their 20s, 40s and 50s were arrested and a firearm was seized.

The men are detained pursuant to the provisions of Section 30 of the Offences Against The State Act 1939/98 at Dublin Garda Stations.

Speaking following the arrests, Detective Chief Superintendent Angela Willis, head of the Garda National Drugs and Organised Crime Bureau said: “The seizure of firearms and the arrest of those who are prepared to use them to take life is a priority for the Garda National Drugs and Organised Crime Bureau.”

While Assistant Commissioner John O’Driscoll of Special Crime Operations said:”I have no doubt that this operation has prevented a firearm being used to take life and enabled the Garda Síochána to keep people safe.”
