Dublin spends a crazy amount of money on beer – here’s the proof

Carl Kinsella

The Beer Price Index of 2016, released this week by GoEuro, compares the price of alcohol across 70 world cities.

Overall, Dublin finished 37th on the overall list with an average price of €3.30 for 33cl of beer (the same amount as what’s in your average Coke can). This was calculated from averages of €1 per 33cl of beer in a supermarket and €5.58 for the same volume in a pub or a bar.

However, despite being the 27th cheapest European city for beer on the list, Dublin spends more on beer than just eight other European cities – a pretty huge discrepancy.

Dublin finished 9th on the list for most money spent on beer, spending €920 per person per year on beer. Lausanne, Switzerland is the city that spends the most on beer – but this makes sense given that Lausanne is also the most expensive city on the list.

Between Lausanne and Dublin are Helsinki, Prague, Moscow, Frankfurt, Barcelona, Reykjavik, and Vienna. Berlin completes the top 10.
