Police investigating after railway workers threatened by gunman in Armagh

The incident took place on Saturday morning.

Members of the Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI) are investigating following a report that a number of railway workers were threatened by a man with a gun.

The incident took place on the railway line at Lake Street in Lurgan, County Armagh on Saturday morning, 2 March.

The railway line in question had been closed to the public in order to facilitate a track replacement.

In a statement, PSNI Chief Inspector Barney O’Connor said:

“We understand that at around 11.10am this morning, a number of individuals carrying out work on the railway line at Lake Street were approached by a male who was allegedly armed with a firearm.

“This male threatened the workers before making off.”

O’Connor added that the PSNI are currently working with Translink in order to identify the individual responsible.

He has appealed for witnesses who may have seen what happened on Saturday morning or who has any relevant information to call 101, quoting reference 480 02/03/19.
