Leap Card and cash fares are set to change for commuters across Ireland tomorrow, with a full list of the changes published on the Leap Card website.
The changes are designed to dissuade commuters from using cash. Dublin Bus has posted cash fare increases for short and medium range journeys, with the top fare of €3.30 remaining unchanged.
However, those travelling for three zones will see an increase of 10c on the current €2.00 fare. Those travelling between 4 and 13 zones will see a jump from €2.70 to €2.85. The full list of Dublin Bus fare changes can be found here.
According to Dublin Bus, “fares for mid-range journeys are to increase by approximately 5% but 2/3 of cash customers can beat the increase simply by moving to Leap. Use of Leap Card will be up to 28% cheaper than cash.”
Those who use the Leap Card for travelling on the Luas will save 31% compared to paying by cash.
Fares will increase slightly for DART users, with a full list of the changes to be put in place published on the Iarnród Éireann website. The changes range from 0.7% to 4.6% depending on the fare.
On Bus Éireann services in Cork City, Leap Card fares will now be 30% cheaper than cash fares on average. The same savings applies across the board in Limerick, Galway and Waterford.
