Pubs closing on Good Friday could be a thing of the past

Some would say it's about time

Some would say it’s about time.

Could we be about to see the ban on selling alcohol on Good Friday lifted?

Two different groups – The Licensed Vintners Association and the Vintners Federation of Ireland – are believed to have had very productive meetings today with Minister for Justice, Frances Fitzgerald.

The organisation put their concerns to the Minister, citing the Leinster v Bath match and the 2016 Easter Rising commemorations as two huge events which could benefit from the law being changed.

The groups released a statement after the meeting, which said: “They made the point that prospective visitors will be making their travel plans in the coming weeks and that a decision to allow licensed trading would be a huge boon to the tourist sector and the economy as a whole.”

The groups are hopeful that a positive response will come from the justice department in due course.

We’ll miss those trips across the Irish Sea…
