Donald Trump revealed that Vladimir Putin vowed to retaliate to Ukraine's attack on Russian airfields in a new post on Truth Social.
The US President said he had just come off the phone with the Russian leader, and described their conversation as "good".
However, he said that he did not think they would achieve "immediate peace".
Trump said that during the call, which lasted one hour and 15 minutes, the pair discussed Ukraine's attack on Russia's docked airplanes, as well as other recent attacks by both sides.
"President Putin did say, and very strongly, that he will have to respond to the recent attack on the airfields," Trump said.
It comes after Ukraine's 'Operation Spiderweb' which saw Ukrainian drones attack four airbases deep inside Russian territory.
The phonecall marks the second time that Trump and Putin have spoken in the last two weeks.
The leaders last spoke on May 19, in a conversation which Trump said was "excellent".
Trump and Putin also discussed Iran, and their talks on nuclear weapons.
“I stated to President Putin that Iran cannot have a nuclear weapon and, on this, I believe that we were in agreement," he wrote.
