Rain, hail and frost to hit Ireland as temperatures set to drop to -3C

Weather

It’s going to be cold.

On the plus side, Netflix have added Fyre and the Irish prison drama, Michael Inside.

That’s a good thing because Met Éireann’s forecast for next week isn’t too cheery with rain, hail, sleet and snow being predicted.

Aside from this, the mercury is also set to drop into the minus figures while heavy showers and possible thundery conditions are also expected for parts of Ireland.

This afternoon is set to be cold but mainly dry for large parts of the country, however, tonight is set to be “very cold, with widespread frost and a risk of icy patches on untreated surfaces. The minimum temperatures is set to be minus 3.”

Have the tea and duvets ready.

Monday is set to be mainly dry aside from rain developing on the west and southwest coasts. This rain is set to drift eastwards during the afternoon and early evening, possibly turning to sleet in parts of Ulster, with a risk of hill snow. Gusty winds and scattered showers are set to prevail on Monday night too.

Met Éireann state that “some of the showers will be heavy and possibly thundery, and they will turn increasingly wintry overnight, falling as a mixture of rain, hail, sleet and snow, producing a heightened risk of icy stretches on untreated surfaces.”

These cold conditions are set to continue into Tuesday morning but by the evening, the showers will become increasingly confined to the western and northern coasts.

Wednesday is set to be cold but dry. This being said, it’s set to be quite chilly with lows of minus 3 being predicted along with widespread risks of frost and icy patches.

Thankfully, conditions are set to improve by Thursday with things becoming warmer and sunnier.  Friday looks set to be fairly decent with only clouds and spells of patchy rain set to arrive.

Current indications for next weekend suggest that we’re going to have a wet and breezy say Saturday, and this will be followed by a drier and colder day on Sunday.
