Red level wind warning now extended across ENTIRE country for Hurricane Ophelia

Carl Kinsella

All of Ireland is now facing Red level wind warning threats from the effects of the oncoming Hurricane Ophelia.

Originally, eight counties on the West and South coasts of Ireland had been put on Red alert for the storm. Now Met Éireann has extended the Red level wind warning across all 32 counties.

In a warning post on their website, Met Éireann has warned that “there is potential risk to lives.” The warning is in effect from 6am on Monday morning until midnight.

Eight other counties — Cork, Kerry, Clare, Limerick, Mayo, Galway, Wexford and Waterford still face an Orange rainfall warning. The rest of the country is on Yellow threat level for rainfall.

Colleges, schools and transport in the original Red level areas had been disrupted, with many cancellations and closures. It is now unclear whether or not these same institutions in the rest of the country will be affected.

UPDATE: The government has now directed that all schools remain closed nationwide.
