Russian news agency Interfax are reporting that a Malaysian Airlines plane carrying 295 passengers has crashed near the Ukrainian/Russian border.

A spokesman for Malaysian Airlines has confirmed “an incident” on board a flight from Amsterdam to Kuala Lumpur and the airline is expected to release a statement shortly.

Further reports suggest that an adviser to the Ukrainian Interior Ministry has said that the plane was shot down by a Buk missile fired by separatists and that the plane has been found burning in Eastern Ukraine.
