Researchers from UCC have developed a new compound that significantly reduces the size of some tumours, particularly those that are the result of leukaemia.
The compound, which was made using molecules from berries, has been shown to reduce the size of tumours by up to 70% in mice.
According to The Irish Times, upon discovery of the potential breakthrough Professor Tom Cotter of UCC ran across the campus to share his findings with his colleague.
The next step in working out whether or not the compound will be useful is to test it on tumours in humans patients.
