Retail giant to introduce €11.50 per hour ‘living wage’ in Ireland

Nice move...

JOE

A little bit of good news to start the morning.

Lidl is set to become Ireland’s largest retail employer to commit to paying their staff the living wage of €11.50 per hour.

The living wage is an independently measured amount which is deemed socially acceptable.

For full-time staff, that’s around €450 per week or €24k per year. It’s also almost €3 higher than the national minimum wage of €8.65 per hour.

Ikea have made a similar move recently, but this is seen as a much bigger commitment as Lidl has 143 stores around the country opposed to Ikea’s one in North Dublin.

Approximately 700 of Lidl’s 3,800 staff will be affected by the changes which are being implemented on November 1.

This is also being implemented in Northern Ireland, where staff are being paid a benchmarked sterling level.
