Two men in their 20s have died after road collisions in Westmeath and Monaghan

The two men, aged 26 and 20 respectively, died as a result of separate road collisions on Saturday night and Sunday morning.

Two men, both in their 20s, have died as a result of road collisions in Athlone and Carrickmacross on Saturday evening and the early hours of Sunday morning.

A 26-year old motorcyclist collided with three cars at the Pigeons in Athlone at approximately 8pm on Saturday evening. He was treated by Emergency Services personnel at the scene but was pronounced dead a short time later.

Gardaí at Glasson in Westmeath are appealing for witnesses to the incident; the road is currently closed to traffic and local diversions are in place. Garda Forensic Collision Investigators have been requested to examine the scene and the Coroner has been notified of the death.

Gardaí at Carrickmacross in Monaghan, meanwhile, are appealing for witnesses following a single vehicle fatal road traffic collision at Lurgans shortly after midnight on Saturday night.

The collision occurred at approximately 12.05am on Sunday, 9 July after a car collided with a ditch.

The male driver in his 20s, the only occupant of the car, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The road is currently closed to traffic and local diversions are in place. Garda Forensic Collision Investigators have been requested to examine the scene. The Coroner has been notified of the death.
