Man dies following road traffic collision in Westmeath

The incident occurred in the early hours of Thursday morning.

A pedestrian, believed to be a man in his 30s, was fatally injured following a collision with a car on the N4 in Westmeath in the early hours of Thursday morning.

Gardaí are investigating the collision, which occurred on the N4 close to Mullingar at about 12.30am on Thursday (28 February).

The man’s body has been removed to the Midlands Regional Hospital Mullingar, where a post mortem-examination will be carried out. The driver of the car received minor injuries and was also treated in hospital.

As of 8am on Thursday morning, the N4 remained closed at the scene is closed and diversions are in place.
