“I can’t overstate what this means to ordinary Zimbabweans.” These are incredible scenes in Harare.
Harare is the most euphoric place on Earth on Tuesday evening, following the resignation of the country’s former president Robert Mugabe.
These were the scenes – filmed a short time ago in Zimbabwe’s capital by CNN International – as people danced in the street, honked their horns and celebrated life away from the rule of Mugabe.
“He’s GONE! He’s GONE! He’s GONE!” people shouted as reporters made their way through the streets.

Mugabe’s resignation brought to an end 37 years of rule, with Parliament having earlier started proceeding the impeach the 93-year-old who had been placed under house arrest after the country’s military seized Harare.
The former freedom fighter has been Zimbabwe’s only leader since independence from Britain was achieved in 1980.
He was initially seen as Zimbabwe’s answer to Nelson Mandela, but quickly started an oppressive regime that resulted in countless deaths as he sought to consolidate his power.
His demise began a week ago when he was ousted by the ruling ZANU-PF party, before his allies abandoned him and he was placed under house arrest.
