The acting Chief Medical Officer has released a video attempting to clarify any confusion from the government’s new Covid guidelines.

Doctor Ronan Glynn has posted a video of him attempting to clear up any of the current doubt surrounding recent Covid-19 developments in Ireland.

In the five-minute video, he discussed some of the changes that have been made, and explained why this is the case.

He pointed out that as of Wednesday, Ireland has the third highest Covid growth rate in the EU.

Glynn also spoke about the doubt surrounding a number of the recent Covid cases that have been reported.

“About 3%, or 36 cases, over the past 14 days have been travel related. Over 200 have been confirmed as community transmission, which is that we don’t know where they came from and a further 200 remain under investigation.”

Glynn stressed that one of the most important takeaways from the recent developments may have been lost on people, saying: “Please do not have more than six people over to your house or garden and outside, no more than 15 people should meet up. And even then, people need to physically distance from one another. Please work from home if at all possible.”

He also touched on the changes made to sporting events, saying: “I know that what is being asked is difficult, especially when people have already given so much over the last six months. I know that for a nation which loves its sport and which loves to socialise, these measures feel incredibly unfair.”
