The Level 5 Covid restrictions are due to come to an end in Ireland on 1 December.
Ronan Glynn has said that it’s impossible to know whether Ireland will definitely leave Level 5 restrictions on 1 December.
Speaking at a press briefing on Monday evening, Glynn talked about how much things can change in two weeks, and that it’s possible we could be in a much better position, or a much worse position.
However, Glynn did not seem optimistic about the way in which Ireland is currently heading.
He said: “We have to focus on today and tomorrow, and what people are doing individually today and tomorrow. We have no idea where we will be in two weeks time at this point.
“What dictates that is what people today, tomorrow and the next day. This isn’t a message about ‘we might recommend further messages, we might recommend the extension of Level 5’. We really don’t want to want to contemplate anything like that, and we’re not contemplating anything like that.
“What we’re saying is that people really need to take the opportunity to stick with us and to focus on the basics. Focus on what’s happening today and tomorrow”.
Glynn also said that due to increasing numbers over the past number of days, ” we really have a short period of time to turn this around.”

Monday night saw five further Covid-19 deaths confirmed, as well as 456 new cases.
