Russell Brand is going to sue The Sun and give the proceeds to the JFT96 campaign if he’s successful

This isn’t the first time Brand has pledged his support to those campaigning for justice on behalf of the victims of the Hillsborough disaster.

This isn’t the first time Brand has pledged his support to those campaigning for justice on behalf of the victims of the Hillsborough disaster.

The comedian has been in the news this week after joining residents of New Era Estate in east London to protest a rise in rent prices, with an Irish reporter raising Russell’s heckles when he dared to question him about the price of his home on Channel 4 news.

Paraic O’Brien wasn’t the only member of the fourth estate to get Russell’s goat as The Sun saw fit to label him as a hypocrite on their front page this morning.

As you might expect, Brand wasn’t too happy about it and promised to take action, declaring his intention to donate the proceeds towards New Era Estate and the JFT96 campaign if he’s successful.

Earlier this year, Brand donated money to the Justice for the 96 campaign after successfully suing the Sun on Sunday for falsely claiming that he had cheated on his girlfriend last year.

Should he be successful in his latest action against the paper, the gesture will once again be very much appreciated on Merseyside, where The Sun remains extremely unpopular due to their coverage of the Hillsborough disaster 25 years ago.
